Apologize

An effective apology typically does the following.

1.
Acknowledge what you did and how you affected the other.
2.
Don't explain your actions, or make excuses, or blame someone else.
3.
Sincerely say that you're sorry.
4.
Describe how you're going to make it right.
5.
Describe how you'll make sure it doesn't happen again.

The goals of an apology are typically to preserve your relationship and reputation, and to prevent the same issue in the future.
